Narrative:
The Star-Moon Bodhi Buddhist beads are one of the most common prayer beads in Tibetan Buddhism. Their name comes from their unique appearance - the surface of the beads is covered with fine brown-black spots, with a larger germ hole in the center, which looks like stars surrounding the moon, hence the name "Star-Moon Bodhi".
The raw materials for this kind of Buddhist beads come from the seeds of the palm family's Rhizoma Cyperi, which are polished and made into prayer beads. The history of Star Moon Bodhi can be traced back to the early days when Buddhism was introduced to China. Buddhists believe that chanting Bodhi beads can accumulate merits, and it is mentioned in the "Sutra on the Merits of Counting Beads": "If Bodhi seeds are used as counting beads, or you pinch them and recite them, or just hold them in your hands, and recite them several times, the blessings will be immeasurable." This makes Star Moon Bodhi one of the important instruments for practitioners.
In addition, Star Moon Bodhi is also related to the legend of "Journey to the West". It is said that when Sun Wukong was pressed under the Five Finger Mountain, a large number of yellow vines grew on the mountain, and their fruit was the Star and Moon Bodhi. Later, when Sun Wukong returned from the West with Buddhist scriptures, he accidentally found a yellow vine seed. As he realized the cause and effect, he shed a tear, which formed a central hole and became today's Star Moon Bodhi.
In Tibetan Buddhism, the Star Moon Bodhi is regarded as a magical instrument that can increase wisdom, ward off evil and avoid disasters. It is loved by practitioners because of its hardness, wear resistance, and its warm color after playing with it.
